Membership

Brite membership explained: 3c back on every daytime DC kWh

From 12 October 2026, Brite members get 3c back for every kWh of DC charging between 7am and midnight, paid back to the card they already tap. Here is how it works, what it costs, and the honest maths on whether it is worth €3.99 a month for you.

Members tap the same contactless card as everyone else. The saving arrives as a refund on the 1st of the month.

Most charging networks put their best price behind a membership. Brite doesn't. Every driver who taps pays the same published rate, and you never need to join anything to charge with us. Membership is an optional extra for people who charge with us often during the day. This guide explains exactly what you get and helps you work out whether it pays for you.

The short version

How it works

1. Register your card

Join on the membership page with your name and email, then register your card on Stripe's secure payment page. Brite never receives or stores your full card number. We see only the card brand, the last four digits and the expiry date, and we use those to match your taps to your membership.

2. Charge exactly as you do now

Tap the registered card on the reader on the main charger unit and pay the standard price shown on the screen. Nothing changes at the bay. You don't have to tell the charger you're a member.

3. Get your refund on the 1st

On the 1st of each month we add up your eligible kWh from the month before, multiply by 3c and refund that amount to the same card. You receive an emailed statement that lists each session and shows how the refund was calculated.

Member prices from 12 October 2026

All prices include VAT. The standard price is what every driver pays at the charger. The member price is what the energy works out at once your refund lands.

Sandy Road (Brite Ultra), 7am–midnight71c/kWh68c/kWh
Night, midnight–7am, all sites60c/kWh60c/kWh (no refund)

The night rate is already Brite's cheapest DC price, so it doesn't earn a refund. The 22 kW AC bays at Sandy Road are a flat 50c per kWh for everyone, members included.

Is it worth it? The honest maths

Membership costs €3.99 a month, and each eligible kWh earns 3c. The break-even point is 133 kWh of daytime DC charging a month. Every kWh after that is a saving.

Occasional driver · 60 kWh a month

Two 30 kWh top-ups in the afternoon

60 kWh × 3c = €1.80 back, against a €3.99 fee. You would be €2.19 a month worse off. Skip membership and pay as you go.

Regular driver · 133 kWh a month

About four 33 kWh daytime charges

133 kWh × 3c = €3.99 back. The refund covers the fee, roughly a weekly charge with us. That's where membership starts to make sense.

High-mileage driver · 300 kWh a month

Daily commuter, rideshare or a home without a charger

300 kWh × 3c = €9.00 back, minus the €3.99 fee. That's €5.01 a month saved, or about €60 a year.

If most of your charging happens after midnight, on the AC bays, through the Charge Assist app or with a roaming card, membership won't save you anything. We would rather tell you that than sell it to you.

What's included and what isn't

Included: DC rapid charging between 7am and midnight, paid by contactless with your registered card, at every Brite charger (Galway Retail Park, Lidl The Plaza and Sandy Road), for sessions from 12 October 2026.

Not included:

Refunds are capped at 400 kWh per member per month, which is a €12.00 refund. A membership covers one person's own charging. Fleets should contact us about business pricing.

Cancelling

There is no minimum term. You can cancel online at brite.ie/members-cancel, through the link in any statement, or by emailing support@brite.ie. Your subscription ends before the next monthly payment, and any refunds already earned are still paid. If you cancel within 14 days of joining, we refund the membership fee in full.

Common questions

Do I still see the €50 hold?

Yes. Members tap exactly like everyone else, so your bank still places the usual refundable €50 pre-authorisation, and only the real session cost is taken. The membership refund arrives separately on the 1st.

Can I register more than one card?

Yes. Email support@brite.ie and we'll add a second card, for example if you sometimes charge with Apple Pay and sometimes with the physical card. Apple Pay and Google Pay use a different card number from your plastic card, so register the one you actually tap with.

Can I get a VAT receipt?

Yes. Request one for any session on the receipts page. Your receipt shows the standard price you paid at the charger, and your monthly statement shows the refund.

The bottom line

If you charge with Brite on DC during the day roughly once a week or more, membership pays for itself and keeps saving after that. If you charge occasionally or mostly at night, the 60c night rate is already our best DC price and you don't need membership. The full details are in the membership terms, and our general charging terms apply to every session.
