Brite Charging terms and conditions

Version 2026-10-v1 · Effective 19 October 2026

The short version. You pay the price per kWh shown on the charger screen and on brite.ie/pricing, including VAT. There is no connection fee, no subscription requirement and no overstay fee. Tapping a bank card places a refundable €50 hold. Use the chargers safely, move off the bay when you have finished, and tell us straight away if something goes wrong. Nothing in these terms takes away your rights as a consumer under Irish law.

1. Who we are

The Brite charging network is operated by Brite Charging Limited ("Brite", "we", "us"), a private company limited by shares registered in Ireland under company number 776320. Our registered office is First Floor, Block 1, Galway Financial Services Centre, Moneenageisha Road, Galway. Our VAT number is shown on every VAT receipt and is available on request.

Contact us at support@brite.ie or on +353 91 355 823. Our network is monitored 24 hours a day from Galway.

"Brite" and "Brite Charging" are registered trademarks in Ireland and the United Kingdom.

2. When these terms apply

2.1 These terms apply whenever you use a Brite charger, however you pay, and whenever you use brite.ie, including the live map and the Ask Brite assistant.

2.2 A contract between you and Brite for a charging session is formed when you start a session by tapping a payment card or phone, through the Charge Assist app, or with an RFID card. By starting a session you accept these terms. A copy is always available at brite.ie/terms, and the charger and receipt identify Brite as the operator.

2.3 Roaming customers. If you start a session with a card or app from another provider (for example Shell Recharge, Octopus Electroverse, DKV, Plugsurfing, or a BMW, Porsche, Hyundai or Charge Now card), that provider bills you at the price it sets, under its own terms. These terms still apply to how you use our sites and equipment (sections 5, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 16).

2.4 Charge Assist app. Charge Assist is our charging app, provided by our charging platform partner GreenFlux. App accounts and in-app payments, which are handled by Stripe, are also subject to the app's own terms, which you accept when you register in the app. If the app's terms and these terms conflict on anything about using a Brite charger, these terms apply.

2.5 Membership. The optional Brite membership is governed by its own membership terms as well as these terms (see section 20).

2.6 These terms are for drivers charging their own or their employer's vehicle. If you want to use Brite chargers for a commercial fleet, taxi fleet or under a business agreement, contact us first. A separate written agreement with us takes priority over these terms where they differ.

3. Words we use

4. Our network and availability

4.1 Our sites are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, unless the landowner restricts access to the car park or we close a bay for maintenance, repair or safety reasons.

4.2 We take reasonable care to keep the chargers working and to fix faults quickly, but we cannot promise that a particular charger or bay will be available, working or free at a particular time.

4.3 The live map on brite.ie shows charger status from our charging platform. It is a guide only. It can be delayed or wrong, and a bay shown as free can be taken before you arrive.

4.4 Each charger lists its maximum power output. The power your car actually receives depends on your vehicle, its battery temperature and state of charge, how many vehicles are sharing the charger's power, grid conditions and the weather. We do not guarantee any particular charging speed or session duration.

5. Your vehicle and cables

5.1 Our DC chargers have tethered CCS cables. Our AC bays at Sandy Road use the Type 2 standard. You are responsible for making sure your vehicle can safely use the charger you choose.

5.2 Use only the cable attached to the charger or, on AC, a cable supplied or approved by your vehicle's manufacturer that is in good condition. Do not use extension leads, cable reels, home-made adaptors or damaged cables.

5.3 Your vehicle must be roadworthy, insured and taxed as required by law while parked in a bay.

6. Starting, stopping and paying

6.1 DC chargers. Tap a contactless bank card, Apple Pay or Google Pay on the payment reader on the main charger unit (not the dispenser), then follow the on-screen instructions. You can also start a DC session with the Charge Assist app or a roaming card.

6.2 AC bays. The AC bays at Sandy Road do not have a card reader. Start an AC session with the Charge Assist app or a compatible RFID or roaming card.

6.3 Stopping. You can stop a session at any time from the charger screen, the app or your vehicle. A session also ends when your vehicle stops drawing power. Once the session has ended, unplug and return the connector to its holster.

6.4 Contactless payments are processed by our payment terminal provider and card acquirer. App payments are processed by Stripe. We never receive or store your full card number.

6.5 The final amount for a contactless session is taken from your card after the session ends. For app and roaming sessions, payment is taken as set out by the app or your roaming provider.

6.6 Brite does not issue its own RFID card or fob.

7. Prices

7.1 You pay for the energy delivered to your vehicle, in kilowatt-hours (kWh), at the price per kWh in force when the energy is delivered. Energy is measured by the charger's meter.

7.2 Our current prices are shown on the charger screen before you start and on brite.ie/pricing. All prices are in euro and include VAT at the applicable rate. Prices can differ by site, by time of day (day rate from 7am to midnight, night rate from midnight to 7am) and between DC and AC.

7.3 There is no connection fee, no minimum spend, no minimum balance and no subscription requirement. You can always pay the published rate without joining anything.

7.4 There is currently no overstay, idle, parking or time fee at any Brite charger. If we decide to introduce one, we will publish the fee and when it applies on brite.ie and at the charger before it takes effect. It will apply only to sessions that start after that date.

7.5 We may change our prices from time to time. A new price applies only to energy delivered after it is published on the charger and on brite.ie. If a session crosses from one time band to another, the energy is priced according to the published bands, and your receipt shows the breakdown.

7.6 If you pay through a roaming provider, the price you pay is set by that provider and may differ from our published prices.

7.7 Car park charges, parking time limits and any parking enforcement at a site are set by the landowner, not by Brite, and are separate from your charging cost.

7.8 If we make an obvious error in a price shown on a charger or on brite.ie, we will charge you no more than the price that was displayed when you started your session.

8. The card pre-authorisation hold

8.1 When you tap a bank card or phone to start a session, your bank places a temporary pre-authorisation hold of €50 on your account. This is not a charge. It confirms that funds are available, in the same way as a petrol pump.

8.2 After the session, we send the actual session cost to your bank and only that amount is taken. Releasing the remaining hold is done by your bank. It usually happens within hours, but some banks take up to 7 working days. Brite cannot release a hold early.

8.3 Sessions started in the Charge Assist app place a smaller hold, currently €10.

8.4 If your card has less than €50 available, your bank may decline the tap. See our guide to the €50 hold for more information.

9. Receipts and VAT invoices

9.1 You can request a VAT receipt for a contactless session at brite.ie/receipts using the last four digits of your card and the date of your charge. Charge Assist users can download VAT invoices in the app.

9.2 Roaming customers receive invoices from their roaming provider.

10. Failed sessions, billing errors and refunds

10.1 If a session fails to start, you are not charged for energy and the hold is released by your bank.

10.2 If a session is interrupted, you pay only for the energy actually delivered.

10.3 If you think you have been charged incorrectly, contact us at support@brite.ie. Please include the site, the date and time, and the last four digits of your card or your app account email. Please do this as soon as you can, ideally within 30 days, while session records are easy to check. We will investigate and promptly refund any amount you were overcharged to the card or account you paid with.

10.4 Apart from the cases above and your statutory rights, energy delivered to your vehicle is not refundable.

10.5 Nothing in this section limits your right to raise a dispute with your card issuer.

11. Safety

11.1 Follow the instructions on the charger screen and the safety signs at the site.

11.2 Do not use a charger, cable or connector that looks damaged, has exposed wiring, is smoking, sparking or unusually hot, or is lying in standing water. Leave the bay and report the problem to us straight away.

11.3 In an emergency involving fire, injury or immediate danger, move away from the charger and call 112 or 999 first, then press the emergency stop button on the charger if it is safe to do so, and call us on +353 91 355 823.

11.4 Do not leave children unsupervised near a charger, and do not allow anyone to play with cables or connectors.

11.5 Do not smoke, refuel or use naked flames in or next to a bay while a vehicle is charging.

12. Fair use of the bays

12.1 Charging bays are for electric vehicles that are actively charging. Please do not park in a bay unless you are charging.

12.2 When your session ends, unplug and move your vehicle as soon as reasonably possible so that the next driver can charge. We do not charge an overstay fee, but we may ask a vehicle to move, and repeated or prolonged blocking of bays may lead to action under section 15.

12.3 Follow the landowner's car park rules, including opening hours, parking time limits and parking charges. Landowners or their contractors may enforce those rules separately from Brite.

12.4 Park within the marked bay, and do not leave cables lying across walkways or other bays.

13. What you must not do

You must not:

14. Reporting faults

14.1 If a charger is not working, a session does not start or something looks wrong, contact us on +353 91 355 823 or at support@brite.ie. You can also use Ask Brite on brite.ie. Tell us the site and, if you can, the bay or charger number shown on the unit.

14.2 Many faults can be fixed remotely in a few minutes. If a charger needs a site visit, our technical partner will attend as soon as reasonably possible.

14.3 Please also report any damage you notice, including damage you may have caused yourself. Reporting damage promptly helps keep the next driver safe.

15. When we may refuse or stop a session

15.1 We may refuse to start a session, stop a session in progress or take a charger out of service if we reasonably believe this is needed for safety, to protect our equipment or the grid, to carry out maintenance or repairs, or to comply with the law or an instruction from the electricity network operator or a public authority.

15.2 If we reasonably believe that someone has seriously or repeatedly breached sections 11 to 13, or has committed fraud, we may block the card, app account or RFID identifier involved from our chargers. We will usually give a warning first unless the breach is serious. You can contact us if you think a block was a mistake.

15.3 If we stop a session under this section, you pay only for the energy delivered before it stopped.

16. Your responsibility for damage

16.1 You are responsible for loss or damage to our chargers, our sites or other people's property that is caused by your negligence, misuse or breach of these terms. This includes driving into a charger, driving off while still connected, or using a damaged or non-compliant cable. You are also responsible for the reasonable cost of repair.

16.2 You are not responsible for normal wear and tear, or for damage that is caused by a fault in our equipment or by something we did or failed to do.

17. Our responsibility to you

17.1 We supply the charging service with reasonable care and skill. If we fail to comply with these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach or our negligence. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it is obvious that it will happen, or if both you and we knew it might happen when the contract was made.

17.2 We do not exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2022 and other Irish consumer law.

17.3 Except as set out in section 17.2, we are not responsible for:

17.4 If you use a Brite charger in the course of a business, we are not liable to you for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity. Our total liability to you as a business customer arising from any one session is limited to €1,000, except where section 17.2 applies.

18. Events outside our control

We are not responsible for delays or failures to provide the service that are caused by events outside our reasonable control. These include grid or power supply failures, failures of telecommunications or payment networks, severe weather, flooding, fire, vandalism, theft, civil unrest, strikes by third parties, pandemics, or an instruction from a public authority or the electricity network operator. If such an event affects a session, you pay only for the energy delivered.

19. brite.ie, the live map and Ask Brite

19.1 Information on brite.ie, including prices, guides and blog posts, is provided in good faith and checked regularly. The price shown on the charger screen at the start of your session is the one that applies.

19.2 Ask Brite is an automated assistant that uses artificial intelligence to answer questions and help with troubleshooting. It can make mistakes. Do not rely on it for safety-critical decisions. If its answer conflicts with these terms, the charger screen or our pricing page, those take priority. Please do not enter personal, payment or sensitive information into Ask Brite. Questions may be logged so that we can improve the service, as described in our privacy policy.

19.3 The content, design, logos and trademarks on brite.ie belong to Brite or our licensors. You may view and share pages for personal, non-commercial use. You must not copy, scrape or reuse our content or data, including live charger status, for commercial purposes without our written permission.

19.4 You must not misuse brite.ie or Ask Brite. This includes trying to gain unauthorised access, introducing malicious code, overloading our systems, or using the assistant to produce unlawful or abusive content.

19.5 Links to other websites are provided for convenience. We are not responsible for their content.

20. Brite membership

Brite membership is an optional monthly subscription that gives refunds on eligible charging. Its price, refund rate, eligibility, cancellation rights and 14-day cooling-off period are set out in the membership terms and pre-contract information. If the membership terms and these terms conflict on anything about membership, the membership terms apply.

21. Your personal data

We process personal data from charging sessions, payments, receipt requests, membership and support enquiries as described in our privacy policy. Our sites may be covered by CCTV operated by the landowner or by us, for safety and the prevention of crime.

22. Complaints

22.1 If you are unhappy with our service, email support@brite.ie with the details, including the site, the date and what happened. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 working days and aim to give you a full response within 20 working days. If we need more time, we will tell you why.

22.2 If you are a consumer and are not satisfied with our response, you may be able to use the Small Claims procedure in the District Court for claims up to €2,000. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (ccpc.ie) provides information on consumer rights. You are also free to take legal action in the Irish courts.

23. Changes to these terms

23.1 We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law, in our prices or services, in our payment or technology providers, or to make them clearer. We will publish the new version on this page with a new version number and effective date.

23.2 Changes will not affect a session that has already started. Each session is governed by the terms published when it started.

23.3 If a change affects members, we will give notice as set out in the membership terms.

24. General legal terms

24.1 Governing law. These terms are governed by the law of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country and may also bring proceedings there.

24.2 Severability. If a court finds any part of these terms invalid or unenforceable, the rest of the terms still apply.

24.3 No waiver. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.

24.4 Transfer. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation, for example if a site or our business is sold. If this happens, your rights will not be reduced. You may not transfer your rights under these terms without our written agreement.

24.5 Third parties. Only you and Brite have rights under these terms, except that our charging platform, payment and technical partners may rely on sections 13 and 16 in relation to their equipment.

24.6 Language. These terms are available in English. If you need them in another format, contact us.
